The Desk covers the presidency as an archive: administrations as the historical spine, a Featured Start-here overlay, and a Federal Register PRESDOCU inventory for modern digital-era administrations.
An executive order, proclamation, or memorandum directs the executive branch. It is not the same thing as a law passed by Congress and signed (or enacted over veto).
Courts and later presidents can narrow, revoke, or replace these instruments. Read the Federal Register or White House origin link when the text itself matters.
Modern admins (Clinton+) include FR PRESDOCU executive orders, proclamations, and presidential memoranda as inventory rows with outbound FR links. Featured instruments keep editorial “why tracked” notes for teaching and hubs.
Pre-Clinton administrations keep NARA library links and thinner action lists until historical backfill. Nominations are deferred.
